How to Overcome Jealousy Biblically

Have you ever felt jealous of someone? Maybe a friend has boughten a new car or maybe your coworker got the raise and you didn’t. These feelings are feelings of jealousy. Jealousy is the emotion of extreme displeasure upon seeing someone else’s good fortune, and it can keep you from experiencing God’s best in your life. In this article, I want to discuss how you can overcome jealousy biblically.

James 4: 2 says, You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it.

Let’s take a look at Psalms 37: 1-6 and see what it has to say about what you can do if you have any kind of jealousy in your heart.

Psalms 37: 1-6 says, Don't worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. Like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord; he will give you your heart's desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord, Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

6 WAYS TO OVERCOME JEALOUSY

First, you are not to be envious of those who do wrong. Sometimes you may witness other people do wrong and get blessed for it. But you are not to be envious of those people. For they will wither and fade like spring flowers. You are to be still and let God handle those people.

Psalms 37: 1 says, Don't worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither.
Psalms 37: 7 says, Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act......

Second, you are to trust in the Lord and do good no matter what anybody else is doing or not doing. You are to not follow their ways.

Psalms 1: 1 says, oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

Third, you are to take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. When you focus and make the Lord your joy, the desires that will grow in your heart will be God’s desires. And these desires will be what will bring you lasting peace and joy.

Psalms 37: 4 says, take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires.

Fourth, you are to commit to the Lord. Remember what he has done for you. And remember that God is God. Just because someone else gets blessed doesn’t mean he won’t bless you too.

Psalms 37: 5 says, commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.

Fifth, you are to thank God for what he is doing in their life. I know this is hard to do.

Philippians 1: 3 says, Everytime I think of you, I give thanks to my God.

When you are jealous of others the enemy is successful in shifting your focus away from God and onto your circumstances. When your eyes are fixed on your circumstances and the rights you believe you deserve, you end up making unwise decisions. And therefore, you miss out on God’s blessings.

James 3: 16 says, for wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

Sixth, you can purchase my self-love bundle to help you with self-criticism. Self-criticism is where you put yourself down and compare yourself unfavorably to others. Stop the negative self-talk and learn to love yourself the way God loves you. When you feel more comfortable in your own skin you will more than likely react to jealousy differently. You will not be so jealous because you are happy with yourself.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for I am jealous of ________.
I don’t want to feel this way and I know you can somehow change my attitude toward this person. Help me to be able to look at them and see them from your perspective, not mine. And help me to be happy for them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen
