The Bible tells you to pray without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17). A wife who continually prays for her husband is a powerful tool when it comes to fighting the enemy. In this article, I want to give you 5 powerful scriptures and 5 prayers that you can use to pray for your husband.
CAN PRAYER CHANGE YOUR HUSBAND?
You were not put in your husband’s life to change him. That is God’s job. Your job is to be his helper. Supporting him in whatever he does. This is where prayer comes into play. Prayer is the most powerful tool to use to help strengthen your husband’s walk with the Lord and to strengthen your marriage. Even if your husband doesn’t know the Lord prayer may be the only way he can come to know the Lord. And that puts you in an important position. A wife is unstoppable when she is on her knees in prayer.
For those of you who may be going through a rough patch in your marriage. I understand what you are going through friend! I am here to tell you that things probably won’t get better overnight, but I promise you that they will get better. As long as you put God first everything will work out for your good and God’s glory.
When my husband and I got back together after a 2-year separation we had to go through a year and a half of learning how to love and trust each other again. And during that time I did a lot of praying for me and for my husband. But praying together helped tremendously too. We found that when we prayed together our prayers were more powerful than if we were to pray alone.
Matthew 18: 20 says, For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.
Jesus is saying that he is there with you when you gather together in groups of 2 or more. Jesus hears your cries even when you are alone. But it makes you kind of wonder since Jesus said this in the bible that there must be so much more to praying with others.
To finish my story here we are 12 years later after our separation and I am here to tell you that our marriage is better than it was 18 years ago when we got married. We love each other more now than we did back then. And we are closer to the Lord. Yes, we still have a lot of growing to do as a married couple but I want you to know that prayer does work!
SCRIPTURES AND PRAYERS TO PRAY OVER YOUR HUSBAND
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1: 5-6)
Thank you, Lord, for the wisdom that you so generously give. Please give my husband that same wisdom. Help him to not waver with his loyalty to you. Help him to know without a doubt that he is following your lead. Keep him rooted in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. (Ephesians 5: 28-29)
Thank you heavenly Father for my husband. I pray you keep him from being complacent and help him to find new ways to show his love for me. Help him to love himself and me the way you love the church. Keep our bond strong and help us to keep you first in our marriage. In Jesus’ name, Amen
And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful! (Psalms 90: 17)
Thank you Father for giving my husband the job that he has. I pray you give him the wisdom he needs to do his job and to make him successful at it. In Jesus’ name, Amen
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4: 8)
Thank you for your precious words, Father. Remind my husband that he needs to fix his thoughts on what is true and not false. If he starts to think negatively gently tell him what is right and pure. Thank you for being such a good God. In Jesus’ name, Amen
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, "I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do." (Acts 13: 22)
Heavenly Father I pray you change my husband’s heart to be a heart after you. Mold him into the likeness of your son. Show him anything that is keeping him from giving his whole heart to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
CONCLUSION
Don’t lose hope friend! There needs to be persistence in prayer. Satan wants you to give up on praying. He knows that prayer is powerful. He knows what will happen when your husband lives for God. He knows what will happen when God answers those prayers you have been praying for. Don’t let Satan have the glory! Remember you are strong in Christ. (Philippians 4:13) You’ve got this!
