Godly wisdom comes from God and honors God. It means we strive to see life from God’s perspective and to act accordingly. Whereas the wisdom of the world will generally lead us to honor ourselves.
1 Corinthians 3: 19 says, "I say this because the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God….."
HOW DO WE GET GODLY WISDOM?
God promises to give us the wisdom we need.
James 1: 5 says, "Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom."
We also get wisdom by learning God’s word.
Psalms 119: 98-100 says, "Your commands are always with me, and they make me wiser than my enemies. I am wiser than all my teachers, because I study your rules. I understand more than those who are older, because I obey your instructions."
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT EARTHLY WISDOM?
James 3: 13-17 gives us a picture of Godly wisdom versus ungodly wisdom.
"Are there any among you who are really wise and understanding? Then you should show your wisdom by living right. You should do what is good with humility. A wise person does not boast. If you are selfish and have bitter jealousy in your hearts, you have no reason to boast. Your boasting is a lie that hides the truth. That kind of wisdom does not come from God. That wisdom comes from the world. It is not spiritual. It is from the devil. Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there wil be confusion and every kind of evil. But the wisdom that comes from God is like this: First it is pure. It is also peaceful, gentle, and easy to please. This wisdom is always ready to help people who have trouble and to do good for others. This wisdom is always fair and honest."
CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY WISDOM
- Wise people are humble. They don’t brag or boast about the things in their life.
2. Wise people are gentle. They treat others with respect.
3. Wise people are considerate. They put the needs of others before themselves.
4. Wise people are merciful. They demonstrate compassion, forgiveness, or kindness to others.
5. Wise people are sincere. They are genuine, real, and honest. Not deceitful or hypocritical.
CONCLUSION
So in conclusion, Godly wisdom is found in and begins with God. We find Godly wisdom on the basis of our relationship with Him. And we find Godly wisdom by humbly submitting to God and obeying His commands and not seeking out the ways of this world.
Let’s pray and ask for God’s will and let the God who knows all guide our steps and give us the wisdom that we need to live in this world. And then let’s watch and see what amazing things our God can do in our lives through his guidance.
