The Bible teaches that the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). We are also warned to stay alert because our enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).

That can sound frightening, especially when you think about protecting yourself and your family from the evil that exists in this world. But here is the good news: you don’t have to live in fear.

You can’t stand guard 24 hours a day, see every danger coming, or fight a spiritual enemy in your own strength. But God can. Throughout Scripture, God reminds us that He is our refuge, defender, and protector.

Jesus said, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”, John 16:33 NLT. Evil does not have the final word. Jesus does. You belong to Christ, and He is greater than anything you will face in this world.

Yes, the Bible repeatedly describes God as our protector, refuge, and defender. “We know that God's children do not make a practice of sinning, for God's Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them.”, 1 John 5:18 NLT.

God is faithful. He will not allow temptation to be more than you can stand, and when you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT).

When you are afraid or feel as though the enemy is attacking you, turn to God's Word. These verses are not magic words or guarantees that Christians will never experience hardship. They remind us who God is, what He has promised, and where our confidence should be when evil surrounds us.

1. Isaiah 54:17, No Weapon Formed Against You Will Succeed

“But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will succeed.”, Isaiah 54:17 NLT. God is ultimately in control. You can bring every battle to Him and trust Him to defend you.

Pray it: Lord, when I feel attacked or afraid, help me remember that You are my defender. Protect me from the plans of the enemy and help me trust Your purposes for my life.

2. 2 Thessalonians 3:3, The Lord Will Guard You From the Evil One
