Trying to hear the voice of God is the most common struggle Christians have. Sometimes the answers to our prayers can come from God, Satan, or from our own thinking. It can be hard to tell where the voice is coming from. I want to show you some ways that have helped me discern the voice of God. And I hope they can help you too.
4 STEPS IN HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD
First, you need to prepare yourself. What that means is you need to get your mind ready to hear God and your body ready to worship him. Kneeling is a good way to prepare your body to hear God’s voice.
You don’t have to kneel all the time. I pray to God all day long. When I am driving, doing dishes, taking a shower, you get the idea. But there is just something about kneeling that draws you closer to God. Taking that posture is telling God that you believe that he is worth worshipping or worth listening to.
Second, you need to have an attitude of attentiveness. Ask the Lord, ” Lord make me willing to hear you”.
God likes to answer in a whisper. He wants you to learn to still your mind and body to hear him. So it is that quiet small voice that you probably will ignore because it is a voice you are not used to hearing.
Tell the Lord “Speak Lord your servant is listening” and just sit there for a couple of minutes listening for that whisper from God. Even if you don’t hear anything that’s ok, you took the initiative to be still before the Lord and he will bless you for doing just that!
Third, you need to have a heart that believes in the impossible. You need to believe that God is bigger than your situation. Ask the Lord ” Lord teach me to rely on your miracle power”.
Ephesians 3:20 says, "God is able to do more than I can even ask or imagine because of his power within me".
Now, what does it mean “his power within me”? When you accept the Lord into your life by believing that he died on the cross for your sins, his power will come and reside inside you. You have the same power that rose Jesus from the grave living inside of you!
You are strong enough to withstand all of Satan’s attacks. But you are only strong because you have the Lord in your life. “Not by might, but by my spirit”(Zechariah 4:6).
Our human strength is not powerful enough to withstand the evil of this world. You are not made to live on this earth without needing God. And if you are a believer you have his help 24/7 when you ask for it.
And forth you need to ask for ears to hear. Ask the Lord “Every moment and everywhere I go, Lord, allow me the privilege to hear you and the courage to obey your command”.
CONCLUSION
So in conclusion even if you forget or just don’t have the chance to get on your knees to pray, try again the next day. God knows you are only human and you are not perfect so try not to be so hard on yourself and try again the next day.
And if you still have trouble hearing the Lord try asking Him this, “How should I pray to you, Lord ?” Chances are he will show you the best way for you to pray. Not for you to be praying someone else’s formula of prayer.
He knows you better than you know yourself. So don’t be afraid to speak up and get real with him. After all, that is what you were created for. To have an open and honest relationship with the Lord. So be willing to listen and willing to learn because he has got some amazing things in store for you!
