There are many promises of God in the bible. By some counts, God has issued more than 40,000 promises. That’s a lot of promises! A promise is a declaration or expression of assurance that something will or will not be done. In this article I want to share with you 10 powerful promises of God, why we can trust Him with those promises, and how to actively apply these promises to our lives right now.
WHAT CAN GOD’S PROMISES DO?
God’s promises can free you from addictions, deliver you from evil, help you through financial problems, help you to overcome depression, give you healing and strength, and break you free from fear and anxiety just to name a few.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO STAND ON GOD’S PROMISES?
We often hear Christians say, “Stand on the promises of God.” But what does that actually mean?
Standing on God’s promises doesn’t mean pretending life isn’t hard or denying our circumstances. It means choosing to believe what God says is true even when our emotions, our situation, or the opinions of others tell us something different.
Every day we have a choice. We can stand on our fears or we can stand on God’s Word. We can believe our circumstances or believe the character of the One who made the promise.
Faith isn’t ignoring reality—it is trusting that God is greater than our reality.
WHY WE SOMETIMES DOUBT GOD’S PROMISES
If we’re honest, most of us have questioned God’s promises at some point.
Maybe you’ve prayed for healing that hasn’t come.
Maybe you’ve been waiting years for an answer.
Maybe you’ve wondered if God forgot about you.
Doubt doesn’t always come because we lack faith. Sometimes it comes because we’ve been disappointed.
Throughout Scripture we see faithful men and women wrestling with waiting, unanswered prayers, and confusing circumstances. Yet over and over again God proved Himself faithful. His timing may not look like ours, but His promises remain true.
GOD’S PROMISES OFTEN REQUIRE WAITING
One thing I’ve learned through my own walk with God is that His promises rarely happen overnight.
Abraham waited decades.
Joseph waited years.
David was anointed king long before he wore the crown.
Even God’s greatest promises often came after seasons of waiting. Waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten you. Sometimes the waiting is where He prepares your heart for what He’s promised.
WHY CAN YOU TRUST IN GOD’S PROMISES?
First, God is not a man. He is not human. He has never sinned and never lied.
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (Numbers 23: 19)
Second, God never changes.
I am the Lord, and I do not change….(Malachi 3: 6)
Unlike you and I, who change our minds constantly. When God decides to do something He will see that it gets done. If He has spoken it, He will fulfill it. For these reasons, you should trust God’s promises and heed His warnings.
GOD’S PROMISES
1. The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. (Psalms 29:11)
2. Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11: 28)
3. Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
4. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. (Isaiah 43: 2)
5. God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1: 12)
6. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (Romans 8: 1)
7. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours. (Mark 11: 24)
8. Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God." (Mark 10: 27)
9. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my temple. If you do, says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! (Malachi 3: 10)
10. Study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8)
HOW TO HOLD ONTO GOD’S PROMISES EVERYDAY
When discouragement comes, don’t simply try to think more positively. Fill your mind with God’s Word instead.
Here are a few simple ways to keep His promises in front of you:
• Write one promise on an index card.
• Pray that promise back to God.
• Memorize one verse each week.
• Thank God for His faithfulness before you see the answer.
• Replace fearful thoughts with Scripture whenever anxiety appears.
The more time you spend in God’s Word, the easier it becomes to recognize His voice over your fears.
CONCLUSION
As you begin to read these bible verses claim them over your life. These are promises God has given to you to lean on and live by. He wants you to believe them and believe in him who gave you these promises. So start today and whatever you are going through choose one of God’s promises and repeat it over your circumstances and start seeing the deliverance God can have over your life.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. (Hebrews 10: 23)
PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that every promise You make is trustworthy because You are trustworthy. Help me believe Your Word even when my circumstances don’t make sense. Strengthen my faith when doubt creeps in, remind me of Your faithfulness when I grow discouraged, and teach me to wait with confidence, knowing You always keep Your promises. Thank You for being the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I really need help with this hatred that I feel for what all of the Priests and Nun’s have done to my grandparents,as well as my many Aunts and uncles, Brothers and sisters, who suffered the day by day abuse, physically, Mentally, Sexually and most of all the Murders that have taken place in those Residential Schools. with all that has happened

I first want to say that I am deeply sorry for the pain you have endured. I truly understand how it feels to lose your faith in God and how hard it is to forgive. I recently had a miscarriage, and I was so confused. I thought God wanted me to have children and then I lose my baby. I questioned God and even was angry. But what I did next was hard to do but it got me through. I continued to pray and read God’s word. I didn’t give up on him just because things didn’t go my way or how I expected them to. We may never understand why things happen on this side of heaven. But God is a God of purpose, and he has plans for everything that we go through in life. Please don’t give up on him. He is there even when we don’t feel him, and he will always be there. I wrote a blog post titled “How to restore your faith in God” that may be a good read for you. One more thing that helped me get through was to think about the good that God has brought into your life. Focusing on gratitude and remembering what God has done in your life will help with the feelings of distrust and may help you to forgive. My prayers are with you.
