Being children of God doesn’t make you immune to the lies of the enemy. If you have accepted the Lord as your savior and you desire to walk alongside him in this world, rest assured he will watch over you and take care of you. But there is also a spiritual force here on this earth that can lie to you. He is known as the “father of lies.” And I want to show you how you can overcome the lies of the enemy.

….He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)

WHY DOES THE ENEMY LIE?

The enemy is good at what he does. Lying is his best weapon against you. Even though he knows you have already won this battle, thanks to Jesus, he can still try and keep you from doing God’s work.

So what are you to do when the lies of the enemy attack?

HOW DO WE OVERCOME THE LIES OF THE ENEMY

Let me start out by asking you what beliefs do you hold on to every day?

For instance, if you have sinned in your past or maybe you went through some form of abuse and you haven’t healed from it, what does your mind go to first?

Do you ask yourself,

“Does God really love me?”

“How can God love me with all that I have done?”

“Is God really a good God?”

What you need to do is replace those negative thoughts with God’s truth. This is something that will take some time. It’s not going to happen overnight. You may have to tell yourself these truths multiple times a day in order for them to sink into your mind.

In fact, the Lord brought this subject to my attention back in January of 2018 and it’s now January 2022 and I am still reminding myself of the truths he showed me. I am much stronger in that area of my life than I was 4 years ago but when they do pop up I am equipped to know how to handle those thoughts.

So let me give you some examples to show you what to replace those negative thoughts with.

Lie: “Is God really for me? It seems like he is against me!”

Truth: God is for me not against me.

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)

God is for you so you have no reason to fear or worry. You can be confident that he will help you and provide for you.

Maybe God is not answering your prayers right now. But you have to remember that He knows what you don’t know. He can see the future. And he does not seek joy in making you unhappy. God wants what is best for you.

Lie: “Does God really love me with all that I have done?”

Truth: God loves me no matter what I have done or will do.

"He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth so great is his love for those who obey him, as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our sins from us." (Psalms 103:10-12)

You have the confidence in knowing that when you ask for forgiveness of your sins the Lord will forgive you no matter what you have done.

Lie: I am all alone. It feels like God is not there.

Truth: God will never leave you. You are not alone.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6)

The truth is the enemy wants you to believe that you are alone. And that there is no one else who is going through what you are going through. All of us struggle and there is always someone who is going through the same thing you are.

GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU

God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. You are loved and accepted by God. You don’t have to do anything to win that love from God ( Ephesians 2:8). Jesus took your place on that cross because God loves you that much. Your sins have been forgiven and there is nothing you can do or say to take God’s love away from you.

A PRAYER TO COMBAT THE LIES OF THE ENEMY

Heavenly Father, I can’t seem to focus on the fact that you love and adore me no matter what I have done in the past. Please help me to replace any negative thought with one of your truths from your word. Help me to remember them and to believe what you say of me. Thank you, Lord, for your love.

CONCLUSION

So every time you hear those negative words in your mind you shut them down as fast as you remembered them. Repeat those truths that I just spoke of. And tell the devil to back off. He has no place in your life. And you need to let him know that. The more truth you know, the closer you will get to conquering the lies of the enemy.
