There are many people these days that have to deal with fear and anxiety on a daily basis. I am one of them. No matter who we are we will have to go through some fear and anxiety at some point in our lives. But God says we don’t have to live with it crippling us.

He tells us in His word that we are not to be afraid. We are not to be anxious about anything. The book of Psalms in the bible is a good place to start looking for verses to help fight fear and anxiety. I want to share with you 8 verses from the book of Psalms and then share with you some ways on how to fight fear and anxiety with the bible.

Psalms 18: 6 – In my trouble, I called to the Lord. Yes, I cried out to my God for help. There in his temple, he heard my voice. He heard my cry for help.

Psalms 23: 4 – Even if I walk through a valley as dark as the grave, I will not be afraid of any danger, because you are with me. Your rod and staff comfort me.

Psalms 27: 1 – Lord, you are my Light and Savior, so why should I be afraid of anyone? The Lord is where my life is safe, so I will be afraid of no one!
27: 2 – Evil people might attack me. They might try to destroy my body. Yes, my enemies might attack me and try to destroy me, but they will stumble and fall.
27: 3 – Even if an army surrounds me, I will not be afraid. Even if people attack me in war, I will trust in the Lord.

Psalms 37: 17 – The wicked will be destroyed, but the Lord cares for those who are good.

Psalms 46: 1 – God is our protection and source of strength. He is always ready to help us in times of trouble.
46: 2 – So we are not afraid when the earth quakes and the mountains fall into the sea.
46: 3 – We are not afraid when the seas become rough and dark and the mountains tremble

Psalms 56: 3 – When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

Psalms 94: 18 – I know I was ready to fall, but, Lord, your faithful love supported me.
94: 19 – I was very worried and upset, but you comforted me and made me happy.

Psalms 121: 1 – I look up to the hills, but where will my help really come from?
121: 2 – My help will come from the Lord, the creator of heaven and earth.

HOW TO FIGHT FEAR AND ANXIETY SPIRITUALLY

#1. Read the bible. I can not stress this enough. The more you read the bible the more peace you will have. A kind of peace that surpasses all understanding that Paul talks about in Philippians 4:7.

If you don’t read the bible, now is a good time to start! Get yourself an NIV bible and start in the book of Psalms. Psalms is a good spot to start when you are new to the bible.

I also recommend The Bible app on your phone or tablet. The reason is that you can read different versions of the bible on that app. Which can help in understanding what is being said.

And if you pray right before you read and ask God to help you in understanding the bible. He will give you that understanding.

#2. Believe what you read in the bible. I know it is hard to believe some of the stories in the bible. But if you believe that they are true. Believe that the people in those stories went through fear and anxiety just like you. It will help with your anxiety tremendously.

#3. Meditate on what you read in the bible. The word meditate here means to think about what you have read. Pick out a verse that speaks to you, that jumps off the page at you, and think about it all day long.

Whenever you start to feel fear or anxiety, just say that verse out loud or in your head over and over until it sticks in your mind. This may mean you may have to say it 20 times a day. But the more you ponder on that verse the more at peace you will be.
