eyeglasses on the bible

Billy Graham once said, “The Bible is not an option, it’s a necessity”. And I would have to agree. Especially if you experience anxiety. The Bible is a tool that you need to use daily in order for you to beat anxiety at its roots. It is an instruction manual and God has a lot to say to you. In this article I want to share with you the 10 powerful Bible verses for anxiety and then how you can use those verses to combat it.

BIBLE VERSES FOR ANXIETY

The Bible is meant to be used daily. God doesn’t want you to suffer. He has given you some verses in the Bible to help you when you feel anxious. Here are some of them.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 6-7)
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5: 7)
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6: 34)
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6: 25-27)
I can do all things through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4: 13)
For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1: 7)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1: 9)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14: 27)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41: 10)
……This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you…..(2 Kings 20:5)

HOW TO USE THE BIBLE VERSES FOR RELIEF FROM ANXIETY

God wants you to rely on and use his word for healing. He wants you to meditate on his word. To meditate means to ponder on or think about it often.

Joshua 1:8 says, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

God gives you many verses in his word to help you when it comes to anxiety. From the list of verses I gave you above, pick one that speaks to you. A verse that jumps off the page. Then read that verse out loud. Read it back to God as if you are talking to him. You may have to read that verse several times a day, because reading it once may not be enough.

I have seen firsthand what repeating a verse over and over can do to your life. Back in 2016, I was going through a rough patch in my life. God had given me Isaiah 41: 10 for comfort. I repeated that verse multiple times a day until I had it memorized. Every time I felt sad or discouraged, I repeated that verse. Believing that verse to be true got me through those rough months. I don’t know how to explain it, but it was like having a blanket of peace surrounding me. The more I repeated that verse the more peace I felt.

MORE WAYS TO CALM YOUR ANXIETY

Here are some more practical steps you can take to calm your anxiety.

-Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5: 17)
-Meditate on positive thoughts (Philippians 4: 8)
-Divert your attention to other people (Philippians 2: 4) As you get your mind off your own problems by helping others, your anxiety will decrease.
-Know that 98% of the things you worry about will never happen.
-Learn to live one day at a time, one moment at a time. (Matthew 6: 34) God only gives you today. There is no certainty about tomorrow. So you only need to focus on today and what God wants you to do today.
